Container volumes through the Port of Tacoma bounced back in March, posting an 8.5 percent gain over the same month last year.

Breakbulk cargo and auto import volumes posted gains through February at the Port of Tacoma, but container volumes continued to lag.

The Port of Tacoma benefited from its diversified cargo mix in January, as container volumes got off to a slow start while other cargo categories posted gains.

The Port of Tacoma handled 1.89 million TEUs (20-foot equivalent units) in 2013, returning closer to the 2 million container cargo mark it first reached in 2005.
