Rep. Judy Clibborn, speaking to the Puget Sound Regional Council's Freight Committee on Friday, described the outlines of a potential transportation revenue package. Acknowledging that details will likely change as she receives feedback from stakeholders, her proposal at least demonstrates that lawmakers are serious about the need for continued investment in our state's infrastructure.

A key priority for her is freight mobility improvements that help economic development.

“When it comes to highway projects, I want to try to focus our priorities more on the freight aspect," she said. "This is how we help with economic development and get Eastern Washington to support a package, especially when you focus on things like I-90 over Snoqualmie Pass and projects that support our ports like the completion of State Route 167 and 509.”

Among her proposals was a phased-in gas tax increase of "between eight and ten cents," a weight fee and MVET.
