The Tacoma News Tribune laid out its action agenda for 2014 this weekend and once again, the completion of State Route 167 tops its list.

The paper, which already demonstrated enormous leadership in support of the largest single economic development project in the state last year, again put lawmakers on notice that it intends to make infrastructure investments a point of emphasis in their 2014 editorial coverage.

"If we sound obsessed about, say, state Route 167 over the next few months, the discussion below gives you fair warning," the paper wrote. "The Legislature must pass a statewide transportation package this winter. Another round of investment in Washington’s highways and transit systems is overdue....The Legislature can’t neglect the state’s critical transportation infrastructure without threatening the jobs and commerce it supports."

With lawmakers returning to Olympia next Monday, one is left to ask, "Is anyone listening?"
