Pierce County's legislative delegation met with the elected leadership of Pierce County, City of Tacoma and Port of Tacoma last night to discuss their goals for the 2014 legislative session. Once again, transportation was on everyone's minds, with all three bodies asking lawmakers to take action on completing State Route 167.
Rep. Jake Fey expressed appreciation for all the hard work put in by the over one hundred public and private organizations supporting the project. "The work you did to come together to provide a common voice in support of SR-167 was enormous," he said. He did share his frustration with the inability to get a package over the finish line in 2013. "We had it within our grasp," Fey said. "It's tremendously disappointing."
Fey encouraged stakeholders to continue their advocacy, however, noting that the highway still needs to be built and that it can only happen if the Senate passes some sort of package.
