As part of its recently convened Special Session, the Legislature continues to grapple with significant issues around K-12 education and the operating budget.

One additional item on the "to do" list, according to the Seattle Times, is completion of a statewide transportation package.

"State legislators are closer than they’ve been in years to reaching a deal to fix the state’s aging transportation infrastructure," the paper editorializes. "They must not get bogged down by ideology and let slip this opportunity to create jobs and make roads safer."

Some legislators may seek to use the transportation package to leverage other items in the operating budget. However, as the Seattle Times correctly notes, "Regardless of those challenges, a transportation deal should not fall through the cracks."
