As we reported on Friday, Governor Inslee gathered with community and business leaders from across the state to support the 2013 Transportation Revenue Package and the Puget Sound Gateway Project, a project that is included in that package. This event has generated a great deal of press.

As KIRO TV reported, "An old idea for completing two unfinished Puget Sound-area freeways is gaining new momentum."

KING 5 television also reported that Inslee is "pushing 2 transportation projects to boost trade, growth": "We're going to build jet airplanes," said Inslee. "And if we're going to build jet airplanes, we're going to have to move those jet engines..."

In the meantime, WSDOT has posted some really terrific photos of the event, including shots of the governor with new WSDOT Secretary Lynn Pederson, Rep. Judy Clibborn and Port of Tacoma Commissioner Don Meyer.

Not only has the Governor thrown his weight behind the project, but SR-167 supporters have also upped the ante, pledging additional, local resources to the effort. Check out the News Tribune'sPolitical Buzz for more info.

The Tribune's editorial board also called for support of the Slimmed Down, Job-Rich Puget Sound Gateway:

It’s been a while, but both political parties in Washington once understood the connection between highway investment and jobs. This is the time to revive that bipartisan vision, given what the Puget Sound Gateway Project promises to do for payrolls both west and east of the mountains.

While the focus of Friday's event was on projects accessing Puget Sound's ports, the News Tribune also wondered whether the Columbia River Crossing Bridge Fight Could Determine the 167 Fate.
