There are certainly several reasons why lawmakers in Olympia have failed to reach agreement on a transportation revenue package that would fund important projects like the completion of State Route 167. What is so frustrating for folks who want to see these investments is that there are far more reasons why agreement should have been reached months ago. Legislators are so frustratingly close. But is there the political will to get it done?

That's the question posed today by the Seattle Times. Noting the similarities to where the state was at in 2003, they write, that "the Legislature is unnecessarily high-centered on transportation."

The paper goes on to note that: "The failure to reach a compromise is frustrating, because the House and Senate leaders are surprisingly close, with general agreement on funding methods, including a gas-tax increase of at least 10 cents per gallon....What’s missing is political will to reach across the divide and get transportation negotiations back on the road."

It's enough to pull your hair out.
