Public affairs firm Cocker Fennesy today briefed the Port of Tacoma Commission on a new public opinion survey of Pierce County residents examining support for the Port, job creation and completion of State Route 167.
Poll respondents reported that the two most important problems facing Pierce County are transportation (18 percent of respondents) and jobs (14 percent of respondents).
They also went on to indicate that the Port of Tacoma is important to economic growth in the county. 82 percent of those surveyed indicated that public institutions like the Port of Tacoma are important or very important to growth, more so than any other public or private institution asked about.
Residents also noted in the survey the importance of completing State Route 167. 88 percent of respondents believe the completion of SR 167 is important or very important-- a seventeen-point increase since the last time the Port polled the citizens of Pierce County. (Interestingly, only five percent of respondents described taxes as an important problem in Pierce County, four points lower than the last Port poll).
