Every summer, as the snow recedes from Mount Rainier, tiny particles on the mountain (known as glacial flour) hitch a ride into the Puyallup-White River watershed and eventually end up in Commencement Bay.

The result is a stark line where the Puyallup River and Commencement Bay meet. Enjoy the contrast while you can, rumor has it autumn is around the corner.

While this turbid (cloudy) water is Mount Rainier's fault, it is a good reminder for all of us that what goes down the drain ends up in our waterways. But rest assured, it is not pollution.
