Governor Inslee called for a second special legislative session to start this morning. While work on the operating budget certainly is a priority. during this special session, so too is passage of a transportation revenue package. Stakeholders from across the state, including business, labor, environmentalists, local governments and tribal members agree that there is no better time for the Legislature to act than this year.
Some lawmakers say that they can't spend time on a transportation revenue package until after the operating budget is resolved. Unfortunately, legislatures almost always adjourn as soon as a final agreement is reached on the operating budget. This is why it is incumbent upon our representatives and senators to get moving now on what is the single largest economic development bill being considered this year.
The Port of Tacoma Commission feels this same sense of urgency. Today it passed a proclamation calling on Olympia to act: POT Transportation Proclamation.
