These projects will be funded by the Port’s Local Economic Development Investment Fund, an annual program that supports non-profit organizations and local governments in Pierce County that promote international trade, tourism or infrastructure efforts.
At their May 21 and July 16 commission meetings, Port commissioners approved a total investment of $229,000 for projects submitted to the 2020 Local Economic Development Investment Fund.
Of the 26 applications received, the review committee, led by Commission President John McCarthy and Commissioner Deanna Keller, recommended funding 10 projects. The committee was composed of Port commissioners and staff.
“These are great programs, and we are looking forward to supporting these investments in Pierce County,” said McCarthy.
“These organizations are well deserving of these investments and have done a great job serving our community,” said Commissioner Kristin Ang.
This program is one of the many ways the Port works to encourage economic development throughout Pierce County.
