Port of Tacoma commissioners selected Dick Marzano as commission president for 2021. The Port of Tacoma commission president also serves as co-chair of The Northwest Seaport Alliance. Marzano, who was first elected to the commission in November 1995, succeeds John McCarthy as president.

The commissioners approved the 2021 officer positions at their Jan. 21 meeting. The positions rotate yearly.

The five-member commission is the governing body of the Port, setting policy and authorizing major expenditures. Port commissioners serve four-year terms.

Commission meetings and study sessions are open to the public. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, all commission meetings are currently being held remotely until further notice. About Dick Marzano

A Tacoma longshore worker for more than 36 years, Dick Marzano served as president of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 23 for six years. Marzano is the chair of the Port of Tacoma Audit Committee and the co-chair of the Puget Sound Gateway Executive Committee. He also serves on the Washington Public Ports Association's Board of Trustees, Puget Sound Regional Council's Executive Board, and Pierce County Sheriff's Office Executive Advisory Board. He has served on WPPA's six-member executive committee. He is a former member of the Freight Mobility Strategic Investment Board, appointed by former Washington Govs. Gary Locke and Christine Gregoire. Marzano is also a member of the Tacoma Propeller Club, Transportation Club of Tacoma, and a former board member of the Foss Waterway Development Authority and St. Leo's Hospitality Kitchen.
