The Port of Tacoma Commission on June 20 approved an agreement with Tacoma Public Schools to contribute $30,000 to the summer Tideflats Certification program, which will help double the number of students who can participate. Commissioners also authorized demolition of two buildings on East 15^th Street that are at the end of their useful lives, and indefinitely postponed a resolution to review the Northwest Seaport Alliance charter and interlocal agreement. Commissioners heard a briefing about accelerating Port-controlled greenhouse gas reduction targets by a decade. Port staff also briefed commissioners on priorities for City of Tacoma street vacations and updates to policies regarding state environmental reviews. Port staff gave a progress report on the Port’s Strategic Plan initiatives, showing 75 percent are completed or on track to be completed by the end of the year.
