The Port of Tacoma commission recognized staff members whose work led to the Port’s receiving the Phoenix Award for brownfield development.

Port of Tacoma Commissioners met on both September 6 and 7.

During the September 6 Managing Members meeting of the Northwest Seaport Alliance, commissioners from both the Port of Tacoma and the Port of Seattle authorized funding for work associated with deepening the berths at Husky Terminal and Washington United Terminals on the Blair Waterway. Port of Tacoma commissioners then a voted to authorize funding for work associated with the East Commencement Habitat Opportunity Project, which will be created with material dredged from the waterway deepening project.

Port of Tacoma commissioners also authorized lease agreements with the Puyallup Tribe of Indians and WWL Vehicle Services that will provide more space for storing automobiles and heavy equipment to accommodate the growth in auto imports.

At the September 7, Port of Tacoma commission meeting, commissioners approved authorizing a next-generation finance and procurement platform and an interlocal agreement with the City of Fife in which the Port will contribute up to $2 million to the Interstate 5/Port of Tacoma Road interchange project.

Commissioners also approved two interlocal agreements to promote workforce development. The Port will pay for an augmented reality training system for aluminum welding at the Bethel School District, and a CNC plasma table for Clover Park Technical College.

Commissioners also authorized international travel for an Australia trade mission and international customer visits as needed.
