The Port of Tacoma was honored with a Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award at the 2015 Esri International User Conference in San Diego. This award acknowledges vision, leadership, hard work and innovative use of Esri's geographic information system (GIS) technology.
The Port’s winning project provides a common operating picture for security with added functionality that benefits other Port staff. The new viewer, which continues to be developed, has more data and tools, is user-friendly and easy to maintain and update, and allows us to display data from other business systems. It also has tools to allow users to easily create reports and demonstrate that GIS is not just a map, but can be a decision-making tool.
"The SAG Awards identify the organizations and people who are using the power of geography to make our world a better place," said Esri President Jack Dangermond. "At Esri, we are always deeply inspired by the passion and innovation of our users. They deserve recognition for their invaluable contributions to their communities and the continued evolution of geographic science.”
