The Port of Tacoma welcomes the Public Disclosure Commission’s review of a citizen complaint about the Port’s recent legal challenge of two proposed city initiatives.

As part of the regular PDC process, the Port provided its response to the issues raised in the complaint, which resulted from the Port’s decision to file a Declaratory Judgment so an impartial court could rule on the validity of the two Save Tacoma Water initiatives before the community spent time and money on an election.

The Port’s action was not about quieting voices; it was about focusing those conversations in a more productive way that achieves the public’s desired outcomes legally.

The Port appreciates the responsiveness of the executive who oversees the agency’s review of complaints, who recused herself after the Port raised concerns about public comments that appeared to express bias.

The Port embraces and shares the PDC’s commitment to transparency and impartiality, and protecting the integrity of the election process.
