The positive weather forecast allowed the City of Tacoma's contractor to begin work earlier than expected on phase 2 of the Milwaukee Way asphalt overlay project.

Grinding work to began last night, and paving will take place today and tomorrow. Striping work is expected to be completed Tuesday, May 26.

Access to all businesses will be provided during construction.

The work is in preparation for the Port of Tacoma Road reconstruction project, expected to begin June 1. The City completed the first phase of the project from Lincoln Avenue to Marshall Avenue in 2014.

The project is funded through a federal grant and heavy haul permit fees.
