Meeting Recap: June 20, 2023

The Port of Tacoma Commission on June 20 approved an agreement with Tacoma Public Schools to contribute $30,000 to the summer Tideflats Certification program, which will help double the number of students who can participate. Commissioners also authorized demolition of two buildings on East 15th Street that are at the end of their useful lives, and indefinitely postponed a resolution to review the Northwest Seaport Alliance charter and interlocal agreement. Commissioners heard a briefing about accelerating Port-controlled greenhouse gas reduction targets by a decade. Port staff also briefed commissioners on priorities for City of Tacoma street vacations and updates to policies regarding state environmental reviews. Port staff gave a progress report on the Port’s Strategic Plan initiatives, showing 75 percent are completed or on track to be completed by the end of the year.
