The Senate Transportation Committee held its second listening session tonight, this time in Everett where an estimated 200 people showed up.
One of the speakers tonight was Evette Mason, a veteran Port employee who has worked on the waterfront for over twenty years. She understands the importance of the completing State Route 167, not only to Pierce County, but also to companies in Snohomish and Skagit Counties. Here are some examples of those businesses for whom a completed SR-167 is the first or last mile for their products shipped through the Port of Tacoma: Last mile Everett
Speaking of companies, one frequent comment we heard from lawmakers during the legislative session was that they were not hearing from the business community about the need for transportation investments. As regular readers of the blog understand, many in the business community have in fact stepped up to show their support for the completion of State Route 167 (check out the Project Supporters tab at the top of the page for the full list).
Three more companies, however, have recently joined the cause, asking lawmakers to complete this critical project of statewide significance. These include Everbright, San Mar, and Washington Cold Storage. Special thanks in particularly to Everbright and San Mar, both of whom tried to testify last night at the Bellevue listening session but never had the chance.
As a reminder, if you are aware of companies that are supportive of completing State Route 167 that are not already on our list, please make sure to let us know.
